A hesitant step away from all that came before
A deep breath before going forward
I look back for a final glimpse
Of the one I used to be
But I'm not there anymore
Even my shadow is vague
Just the outline of a hidden flower
Choked by weeds, blurred in mud
Smothering in the dark
Where I now stand in the light of today
And face a new path
So clear, so obvious
So joyously frightening in all its possibilities
That I don't know how I ever though
I could see before this moment
If only for today
I know where my hope lies
I step into the crystal clear darkness
And await tomorrow's smiling light
